WHO YOU ARE MATTERS
Where do I come from?
I come from a nice, loving Persian Jewish family that currently lives in Los Angeles.
Where am I going?
I’m going to law school! My dream is to go to a prestigious law school that is close to home so hopefully I get into USC Gould School of Law.
How do I plan to get there?
I plan to get there by being disciplined, working hard, and believing in myself. I’m a strong believer in manifesting your aspirations so I constantly picture myself achieving this goal.
How am I LIKE my parents?
I'm like my mom in that we are both perfectionists and need everything to be organized, and I'm like my dad in that we are both very logical and let our brains guide our decisions rather than our emotions.
How am I UNLIKE my parents?
I'm unlike my parents in that I'm adventurous. My parents are both very laid back and like relaxing whereas I love traveling, hiking, and am always on my toes.
Have you developed your own expectations for yourself?
I feel like when I was in high school, I had some expectations for myself but the majority of my expectations were developed by my teachers and the colleges I was applying to, at least on the academic side of things. Now, my expectations have been developed by an equal mix of my own expectations and my parents' expectations of myself, and I’m completely okay with that.
Who, other than a relative, serves as a model for you of someone who lives life with great passion and personal responsibility?
Although he is no longer with us, Kobe Bryant serves as a model for me of someone who lived life with great passion and personal responsibility. Kobe coined the term “Mamba Mentality,” which is a mindset for hard work and continuous self-improvement to reach your highest potential and is something that I live my life by.
What wild animal do you feel a special connection with, and why?
I feel a special connection with turtles as they have a peaceful spirit and I like to consider myself a peaceful person. Also, turtles are patient which is one of the best qualities one can have in my opinion and although this isn't always the case for me, it's something I strive to be.
Describe a significant childhood encounter with a tree or plant.
When I was a little kid I would frequently go out in nature and play. There was a park just two blocks away from my house that I would always hang out at. It was filled with beautiful trees and flowers. One of my favorite things to do there was to run up to the trees and hug them. One day, right as I got to the park, I bolted to one of the trees to give it a hug. Just as I was approaching the tree, I tripped on one of the roots and smashed my face against the tree. I started bleeding really badly and was rushed to the hospital. The cut was right above my eyebrow and required 7 stitches, and I still have the scar to this day. So yeah, pretty rough encounter.

Hi Elan!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I wish you all the best of luck for law school. I don't know much about it except for watching the movie Legally Blonde and the show How to Get Away with Murder, but I know the process is not easy. You got this though, stay strong!
I also love your animal. My boyfriend absolutely loves turtles, and he totally would've said the same thing if he was in this class.
I feel you on the nature story; I rode my bike into a thorn bush. Not pretty or fun lol. At least we both have some cool scars though!
Oops I forgot to sign my name, but I'm Angelica! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Elan,
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to reading and getting to know a little bit about you. I'm definitely not Persian, but I have been around the Los Angeles for a while having going to both high school and now USC. Similarly to you, I also plan to get another degree from USC and continue my time here. Although I don't want to be a lawyer, being a lawyer could be fun as you are basically paid to argue and articulate your thoughts. I also look up to Kobe Bryant as a role model and I also live by the "Mamba Mentality".

Hi Elan!
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to read your post. I too am a big fan of Kobe Bryant and his mamba mentality. He gives me lots of inspiration when it comes to achieving my goals. When I read the part about how you like to picture your success it really stuck with me. I need to start doing that! I think it is awesome that you put in the effort to picture yourself succeeding. In addition, I think that sea turtles make great spirit animals. I think they are a beacon of peace as well. They are quite mystical animals.
And sorry to hear about your tree incident!
Thank you for sharing,
Mason
